Britain, with 596,83-1 tons, continued to lead shipbuilding countries in the amount of tonnage under construction for the quarter ended December 31. according to Lloyds returns. Although this is a slight decrease on the previous quarter’s tonnage, it is 80 per cent, greater than the "tonnage being constructed in the December quarter of 1933. The total world tonnage being constructed amounted to 1.251,722 tons, of which 47.7 per cent, is being built in Britain and Ireland. The world total declined by 60.000 tons, compared with the September quarter, but was 65 per cent, greater than the December quarter of 1933. PLAN TO BE DRAFTED Shipping Rationalisation (British Official Wireless.) Rugby, January 11. Leading representatives of 18 countries took part in the discussion at a preliminary meeting of the International Shipping Conference which opened to-day in London under the chairmanship of Lord Essendon. It was agreed to prepare a draft scheme of rationalisation for consideration of the constituents and subsequent consideration of the full conference. The drafting committee’s report will be laid before the meeting as soon as possible in the course of the present week.
