EXCURSION TO SOUNDS
Marama’s Cruise The opportunity offered by the Marama’s cruise, beginning on Monday, January 28, will be an excellent one for seeing the beauties of Queen Charlotte Sound, Pelorus Sound, and D’Urville Island, under the luxurious conditions experienced on an ocean-going liner, with at the same time more free-and-easy boat and launch trips ashore and about the various places visited. Departure from the wharf at Wellington will be made at 8 p.m. on the Monday, but it will not be till 11 p.m. that the Manama will finally leave, the intervening time being spent in the harbour at anchor for dancing and forming acquaintanceships among the passengers. Port Hardy, the almost unfrequented harbour at the northern end of D’Urville Island. Ship Cove, made famous by Captain Cook; the beautiful Grove Arm at the head of Queen Charlotte Sound; the Kenepuru Arm. striking for the noble contour of its surrounding hills; and Tennyson Inlet, another arm of Pelorous Sound, with virgin bush down to the water’s edge, will all be visited in turn during (he next three days. Full days these will be with boating, bathing, fishing, deck games, dancing, talkies, and various other entertainment, culminating in a grand fancy dress ball on the final evening of the cruise. Following this, the Marama will steal out of Pelorous Sound in the early hours of Friday for the run back to Wellington, which should be reached some time after breakfast.
