The question of officially naming the principal thoroughfare in Taradale was discussed by the Taradale Town Board, when it was suggested that it should be named “Gloucester Street.” in honour of the recent visit of His Royal Highness the Duke of Gloucester. It was pointed out that it had.been Main Road ever since the original survey was made in the early sixties. The board was unanimous that the name suggested was the most fitting for the mu in street. Following the discovery of coal, silica sands, white clay, fire clay, red clay and diatomite deposits in the Mount Somers district, Timaru is to have a new industry, arrangements being in hand for the establishment of a pottery.
