Possibility of War (From “The Dominion,” January 13, 1910.) Sir Edward Grey, iSeeretary lor Foreign Affairs, speaking at Edinburgh, condemned the recent attempts to create panic about the possibility of war with Germany. The increasing of naval expenditure had, said the Minister, produced no coolness between the two Governments, but had doubtless had an effect upon the Press and public opinion, resulting in a certain anxiety regarding the future. Eventually some agreement of a purely voluntary nature might be arrived at. in time the German programme would be completed, and (here would be an ascertained proportion between the navies of the two countries, which might put rivalry in naval expenditure at rest. * * « The sale of the Governor’s horses, carriages, etc., took place at the Government House stables yesterday, under instructions from his Excellency, who will shortly return to the Old Country. The landau was sold for £.140 to Mr. Carey, of Wellington; the Victoria for £4O, and the wagonette for £35. One of the carriage horses realised £35, and the other was passed in at £26.
