At the Mercury Bay Bowling Club's (lance and farewell to two members on New Year’s Eve, a bowler’s kit case was one of the presents. Owing to short notice and holidays intervening the case had not come to hand in time to be presented, so a substitute bad to be found. This was forthcoming, and as the recipient was short-sighted, was found to be effective, so effective indeed that when the receiver was acknowledging thanks for it at the conclusion he walked off with it unnoticed by the owner. It was later recovered, and all enjoyed the laugh that ensued.
