One of the members of the crew of the steamer Orangemoor brought to Auckland from the Seychelles Island a freak coconut, which was exhibited at the Auckland War Memorial Museum. The nut came from Praslin Island, in the Seychelles Group. The palm from which it was obtained grows only on that island near the'sea, and the fruit is known as the double coconut or coeo-de-mer. Sometimes the fruit has us many as three compartments.
