The merits of a flame-thrower for the destruction of weeds were discussed at tiie monthly meeting of the Wanganui County Council, and it was decided that, if.the engineer, Mr. R. R. Dawson, is satisfied after a demonstration, the council would purchase one. It was pointed out by one councillor that more efficient work could often be done by the flame-thrower than by the use of sodium chlorate, for the effect of the thrower was apparent immediately, whereas time was required to see the effect of the sodium chlorate. It. was often found that patches of weeds had been missed by the solution. It was considered Hint fescue could be destroyed more cheaply by flames than by labour.
