SURF SWIMMING

Lyall Bay Club Races Conditions at Lyall Bay on Sunday were ideal for surf swimming, the moderate sea which was running being a fair test for competitors without being unduly tiring. The result of the sixth of the series of surf races conducted by the Lyall Bay Surf and Life Saving Club was as follows: —No. 2 team (W. Bell, J. C. Blakeley, R. Pelham, G. Williams), 1; No. 3 team (F. Diack, 11. Dickson, F. Ryan. J. 'Williams, jun.), 2; No. 1 team (11. Blick. D. F. Buckley, F. Mollier, R. Pearce), 3. Individual placings were: J. C. Blakeley. 1 ; G. Williams, 2; R. Pelham, 3; J. Williams, jun., 4 ; F. Ryan, 5. Club Bellmen’s Tniphy. In addition to the usual weekly surf race, the second annual competition for the club beltmen’s trophy took place at Lyall Bay also on Sunday. The conditions laid down for this event are that all the competitors swim in the belt to buoys moored approximately 125 to 150 yards from the water line, each swimmer’s time is recorded, and when all competitors have completed their swim teams of three are drawn, the team with the lowest aggregate time being winners of the trophy. Sunday’s competition was finalised as follows: — E team (IV. Bell, J. C. Blakeley, G. IVilliams), 1 ; F team (F. Ryan, J. Williams, sen., J. Williams, jun;). 2. C team ami D team tied for third place. The aggregate times of the first fqnr teams were separated by only five seconds between teams B and F, and eight seconds between F and C and D. The best times were put up by the following swimmers in this order: A. Cunningham. J. Williams, jun.. R. Pelham, L. McKeeman, J. C. Blakeley. PETONE CLUB EVENTS The Petone Amateur Swimming and Life Saving Club held its club night on January 8. There was a good attendance of spectators and members present, and some keen competition was witnessed. Results are as follow: — 16 2-3yds. Junior Girls: K. Lane, 1; J. Marston, 2: Z. Strickland, 3.
