MEMBERSHIP RIVALRY
Dunedin and Christchurch Returned Soldiers Tlie membership competition between tlie Christchurch and Dunedin brunches of the Returned Soldiers’ Association has now been in progress for three years and competition between the two centres is still as keen as ever, says the “Christchurch Times.” At the end of the hist financial year. March 31, 1934, the southern membership stood at 2242, and that of Christchurch was 2206. Those figures gave Dunedin a lead of only 36. but at December 31 Dunedin had 2257 members as against the 2157 of Christchurch, showing that the southern city increased her lead to 130. Officials of tlie Christchurch branch are not perturbed, as they state that toward the end of tlie financial year more subscriptions come to hand and they are able to get'closer to their Dunedin friends. Only financial members are allowed to he placed on the roll for the purposes of the competition.
