STEADILY IMPROVING
Economic Conditions in South Africa Cape Town, January 11. The Governor-General’s speech at the opening of Parliament referred to tiie steady improvement in the economic position, tiie conditions responsible happily continuing. The complete recovery of agriculture, however, could only be gradual and consequently' tiie relief legally given on farm mortgages would be continued. Unemployment was being adequately met by the initiatijon of Government schemes. Legislation would be introduced enacting mimimum wages for unskilled and semi-skilled labour in certain occupations as well as unemployment benefits.
