Second Round Commenced STATE FIRE IN FRONT The second round of games in all grades under the control of the Wellington Mercantile Cricket League was commenced on Saturday. Conditions were excellent for high scoring and many fine batting performances were returned, particularly in the lower grades. In the A grade State Fire found Jasco too strong, but they managed to stave off defeat. As Customs were beaten by Cowans, State Fire increased their lead to- six pointe. Bookers-Bricks scored an overwhelming win over Shipping, while Nivens went down to Sargoods. The remaining games were drawn. The following table shows the positions
COAVANS V. CUSTOMS. Excellent bowling performances on both sides kept the scoring down in the game between Cowans and Customs and Customs met their third defeat of the season. BOOKERS-BRICKS v. OVERSEAS SHIPPING. A fine knock by Quaid paved the way for a big score for Bookers-Bricks in their game with Overseas Shipping. Overseas Shipping shaped poorly against the bowling of Booker, and were dismissed cheaply in the first innings, while time saved them from outright defeat.
