Members of the .Unemployment Board, including the commissioner, Mr. G. C. Godfrey, visited Foxton yesterday ami inspected a process of decorticating flax. Assistance in experimental work associated! with the flax industry has already been lent by the board, which is considering a further proposal concerning the decortication process.
Au exceptionally brisk disposal of pigs was witnessed at the Westfield (Auckland) saleyards on Wednesday. Two complete rows consisted almost entirely of heavy baconers, with about six to a pen, and Mr. G. Leyton completed the sale of about 360 pigs in just over 40 minutes, at some stages at the rate of two pens a minute. The sneed of the sale seemed to stimulate the enthusiasm of the buyers, and prices of £3/15/- a head ami over were frequently obtained, representing the highest levels for some time in the pig sales at Westfield.
