Waterside Workers’ Pay

An agreement lias been reached between tiie New Zealand AVateiside AVorkers’ Federation, the .shipping companies, (lie Railway Department, and oilier employing authorities, whereby waterside workers receive an increase in wages of 2d. an hour for general cargo work, with corresponding increases in special rates. ■ The new proposals relating to rates of pay were submitted to a ballot of waterside workers throughout New Zealand, the papers being returnable by December 31. The result of the ballot was that the proposals were accepted, and the new agreement had been in operation since January 7. Under the agreement the men receive 2/2 an hour for general cargo work, and, moreover, the increase is retrospective to September 27.
