APPOINTMENT OF MR. C. A. BERENDSEN
It is now certain that Mr. C. A. Berendsen. Secretary Lor Imperial ami External Affairs, will be appointed Permanent Head of the Prime Minister's Department—a position which was first held for many years by the late Mr. F. D. Thomson. .Air. Berendsen jvill retain his secretarial post in connection with Imperial affairs. Mr. C. A. Jeffery, who, as private secretary to the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. AV. Forbes, has been actingclerk of the Executive Council, will continue in the dual position.
Both officers have had thorough experience as administrative secretaries, and possess the knowledge and tact which, in consistent Exercise, make their duties pleasant for others. Mr. Berendsen, who was chief clerk in the Labour Department in 1917, and registrar of industrial unions in 1918, was appointed to the Imperial Affairs office in 1926. Mr. Jeffery began his career as a political secretary in the late Mr. AY. F. Massey’s staff, and since then has been private secretary to succeeding Prime Ministers. z
