A RAINBOW RADIANCE

I saw a rainbow radiance That shone above tlie sea; I saw a rainbow radiance— And oh, it gladdened me! The sea was rippled by the wind, Grey-green, and.dark, and drear; The sky was veiled by gloomy cloud, But one blue spot was clear. And one high pile of lovely cloud Was gleaming pearly-white; And ’gainst its shining purity The rainbow glimmered bright. One narrow band of ocean shone Bale emerald in the sun; The cliffs in sable shadow stood — But sunshine gleamed on one. White wavelets flickered o’er the sea, The breakers loudly boomed: And. threatening angry storms io come., The low skies darkly gloomed. But still a rainbow radiance Shone just above the sea; I sate that rainbow radiance — And oh, it gladdened me! —By “Excelsior Elf.”
