GOOD SAMARITAN
A Five pounds from an unknown Good Samaritan has saved Mrs. Alexander Maclean, the invalid Skye centenarian, from being removed from her Island home to tlie Public Assistance Institution, states the “News-Chronicle.” Her plight was the subject of a question in the Commons by Mr. William Leonard, M.P. for St. Rollox. Glasgow. He revealed that Mrs. Maclean, who is bedridden at North Asgaig, op the Island of Raasay, had lieen offered only 5/- a week allowance by the Public Assistance Department. As an alternative, the Inverness County Council suggested that tlie old woman should be taken to tlie institution at Inverness. Mr. Leonard has now received a letter with a cheque for £5 from a Glasgow business man who wishes to remain anonymous. The donor in his. letter stated, “I would’ consider It a privilege to contribute further sums hoping that she will long live to enjoy the benefit.” "I have no doubt,” said Mr. Leonard, “that in view of what lias happened I he Inverness county authorities will reconsider their attitude aud allow Mrs. Maclean Io enjoy her reimfining days in the peace of her own fireside.
