Paraparaumu Camp Site

Sir, —“Regular Camper” has been misinformed insofar as, his. criticism of the Paraparaumu Domain Board is concerned. As pointed out in your footnote to his letter, the Paraparaumu Beach Domain Board has no connection with the camp site or its management. The camp site is on private property, the use of which was granted some years ago to a committee of local residents, who erected the conveniences and collected the fees for one year only. Since that time no fees have been collected, and I understand that the original committee has long since ceased to function. Campers are now damping on private property free of charge with at least the advantage of a handy water supply.—l am, etc., . . G.-C. MACLEAN, Hon. Secretary. Paraparaumu Beach Domain Boards Paraparaumu, January 10.

Sir, —I read with interest “Regular Camper’s” letter in your paper of January 10, and I can thoroughly endorse all his remarks. If they need altering in any way it would only be to make them stronger in their condemnation of what is supposed to be a camp site. Of course there is no obligation on the part of the Paraparaumu beaeh authorities to provide a motor camp,, but I would certainly suggest that the sign on the main road directing people to a motor camp be taken down. Prior to the holidays, I endeavoured to arrange for a camp site at Plimmerton, but ascertained that there was no drinking water, so went as recommended to the camp site at Paraparaumu. On arrival and on making an inspection of the camp I was surprised and shocked and decided to move elsewhere, but was fortunate in. that I was able to secure a good site adjacent to the beach. There is a plentiful supply of water, and in my opinion every facility for the establishment of an ideal camp, which would become increasingly popular, and incidentally which would easily pay .its way, as motor campers have no objection to paying fees for reasonable camp facilities. In direct contrast to the motor site. I should like to mention the excellent services provided by butchers, bakers, milkmen, and grocers for the temporary residents at the beach. The service and the products supplied is beyond reproach, and in conclusion it may not.be out of place to mention that the service, civility and the endeavour to oblige which ono receives at the post office on the beaeh at Paraparaumu is equal to any in New Zealand. —I am. etc., A, C. M. PARKINSON. Marton, January 11.
