Mr. 11. Roseveare, chairman of the local Tithepayers’ Association, says that 700 or 800 distraint orders for the non-payment of tithes are out. against farmers in the Ashford district, Kent. They are living in terror behind locked doors, and are not speaking to strangers except through letter boxes or upper windows. Maiiy attempts have been made to seize furniture. The tithe problem is emptying churches am. ruining agriculture. Already 1,000,000 acres have been vacated.
