POLICE INSPECTOR
Transfer to Wellington
The Police Department has appointed Inspector G. B. Edwards, of Auckland, to take over the position held by Inspector J. Lander, Wellington. He will 'arrive within the next few days. Inspector Lander is at present one of the officers in charge of the police detachment accompanying the Duke of Gloucester in the South Island, and at the end of the tour he is to be stationed at Wanganui. ' Inspector Edwards joined the Police Force in 1905 and as a constable was stationed at Dunedin, Kurow, and Rakaia. In 1917 he was appointed to the rank of sergeant at Wellington and two years later he was sent to Hamilton. When his promotion to seniorsergeant came in 1924, he was transferred to Auckland.
In 1927 he was transferred to Wellington as instructor at the police training depot, a position which he occupied with distinction until the depot was closed in July. 1930. He then assumed charge of the Taranaki Street police station until in January, 1932, he was promoted' to the rank of sub-inspector at Christchurch. Going to Auckland in April of last year he was appointed to his present rank of inspector in July.
