DAMAGE BY FIRE
Outbreak in Railway Sheds
By Telegraph—Press Association.
Auckland, January 10.
A lire broke out soon after noon today on the roof of the railway engine cleaning sheds, and for a time it threatened to destroy the whole building, which is an old wooden one. It started with a spark from a passing engine. Most of the employees had knocked off for lunch and some were swimming in the boat harbour nearby. All immediately helped to check the outbreak until the Fire Brigade arrived. Two men, stripped to the waist and another in bathing trunks, dragged hoses on to the roof, and others manned shunting engines to tow the locomotives from the shed. The damage was confined to the roof and rafters.
