PARTY FOR DOGS

Christmas Gifts For Pets

London, December 28. An aspect of .Britain’s Christmastide which M. Andre Maurois, the eminent French writer, overlooked in a current article in a Paris paper was a party for 3009 “aristocratic” dogs at the Dogs’ Club, in Mayfair, where callers were received from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m., and .presented with two sausages and a box of dog biscuits. Children who were invited to bring dog guests were rewarded with appropriate gifts. Dog-owners who belong to the club, which takes care of Princess Elizabeth’s three Cairns terriers, include the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Gloucester and the Duke of Kent. M. Andre Maurois says in his article that Britain’s role in Europe has ensured Christmas happiness for herself and France. She is serving civilisation by assisting to maintain order in the Saar. '

M. Maurois urges the French >o emulate the British spending campaign at Christmas time in order to make it a festival of hope in Paris as in London.
