Price Movements at Yesterday’s Sales There were no market price movements at yesterday's stock sales, values generally being firm at late rates. At Addington best beef improved 10/- a head, making 23/- to 25/- per 1001 b.. other sorts remaining unchanged. Sheep values were very firm, and in the case of heavy fat whether s advanced 1/-. Fat cattle met a dull sale at Johnsonville, and were down 7/0 to 10/-, while sheep and lambs were unchanged. At Stortford Lodge fat cattle were in short supply, and advanced 5/- to 10/-. Sheep values were very firm, with an upward tendency. Masterton saw cattle very dull, but sheep in keen demand, while at Burnside both cattle and sheep were firm to slightly up. Cattle were in short supply Vt Westfield, and values firmed 1/- to 2/- per 1001 b., extra choice ox beef making 24/-. Sheep and lambs were unchanged.

. Christchurch, January 9. Addington market to-day generally favoured vendors of fat stock, the demand in all sections being more encouraging. .Store sheep : A small entry of adult sheep. Wethers were in demand, with late rates .maintained, while a larger entry of store lambs met a keen sale, values being firm. Wethers made 13/- to 17/10; two-tooth Romney ewes, 20/2; six and eight-tooth halfbred, 14/-; forward lambs made 15/3 to 16/-; others, 7/9 to 15/-. Fat lambs: An entry of 2300, with light-con di tioned sorts prominent. Butchers’ demand was restricted, but export buyers operated freely, and full schedule rates were maintained. Values: Prime heavy lambs, 23/- to 25/1: medium, 20/- to 23/-; light. 15/6 to 19/6. Fat sheep: An entry of 4600, with the demand strong for heavier types, which advanced 1/- a head on late rates, while other types were firm. Values: Extra prime heavy wethers, to 28/1; heavy, 24/6 to 25/6; medium weight, 21/6 to 24/-; medium, 19/- to 21/-; light, to IS/-;.extra prime heavy ewes, to 21/10; heavy, 18/3 to 20/-; medium weight, 15/9 to IS/-; ordinary, 13/6 to 15/6; light, to 13/-.
Fat cattle: The entry of 430 head, including a few from Southland, met a good sale for best beef, which advanced 10/- a head, while other classes were unchanged. Best beef sold from 23/- to 25/6, good 19/6 to 22/6; heavy, 17/- to 19/-: medium. 14/- to 17/-; rough, down to 10/-. Values : Extra prime heavy steers, to £lO/7/6: heavy. £B/5/- to £9/10/-; medium weight. £7/10/- to £B/15/-; ordinary. £4 to £7; light, to £3/10/-; extra prime heifers, to £9/12/6 ; prime, £4/15/to £6/10/-; medium, £3 to £4/10/-; light, to £3; extra prime cows, to £7 12/6; prime. £4 to £5/10/-; medium. £2 5/- to £3/15/-; light, to £2. Vealers: A small yarding with only the best quality in demand, the top price being £4/4/-. The store cattle entry was so nondescript that quotations are not worth while. No steers were penned.
Store pigs met an erratic market with .values about on a par with late rates. Weaners, 9/6 to 15/-; slips, 11/- to 13/6 ; stores, 14/6 to 24/-.
Dairy cattle met a keen demand for the 68 head forward. Best cows made £7 5/-; best heifers, £7/12/6. . Fat pigs: A good entry met a keen auction, and all classes showed a slight advance on late rates. Values: Choppers. £2 to £3/8/6; baeoners, 45/- to 54/6; heavy baconers, SS/6 to £3/6/6; extra heavy baeoners, £3/10/6 to £3/14/6; .average price per lb., 5Jd. to 6d.; porkers, 27/6 to 38/6; average price per lb., 51d. to 6d.)

Aucldaiiul, January 9. There was an abnormally small yarding of cattle at the Westfield sale, only a few over 400 head being offered. The quality of steers, cows and heifers was well up to standard, and the demand exceptionally keen. As a consequence all classes improved in value between 1/-and 2/- per 1001 b. Extra choice ox beef made 24/- a 1001 b.; choice and prime, 20/- to 23/-; secondary and plain, 17/to 19/-; prime young cow and heifer beef, 20/- to 23/-; other- cow beef, 1.6/to 19/-. Extra heavy prime steers ranged from £9 to £9/17/6; heavy prime, £8 to £B/17/6; lighter prime, £7 to £7/17/6; light nrlme, £6 to £6/17/6; small and unfinished, £4 to £5/15/-; extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £5/15/to £6/15/-; heavy prime, £4/5/- to £5 12/6; lighter prime, £2/15/- to £4/2/6; other killable cows, £l/5/- to £2/15/-. Calves were yarded in. large numbers. z\.t the beginning of the sale competition was very steady, and late rates were fully maintained. However, the supply was in excess of the demand, and all late sale calves suffered, price levels being very much lower. Runners, 34/- to 92/-; vealers, 28/- to 71/-.' There was a good yarding of sheep, but the quality was not up to that of recentsales. Competition was steady, and values for both wethers and ewes remained unchanged. Lambs were penned in average numbers, and bidding was free, resulting in current rates being maintained. Wethers, prime, 21/- to 26/9; unfinished, 18/6 to 20/9; ewes, prime, 13/to 19/-; unfinished. 6/- to 12/6; lambs, prime. 16/- to 22/9; unfinished, 11/- to 15/9. The offering of pigs was an average one, there being a large supply of heavy prime baconers, and for these one of the briskest sales for a considerable time resulted in a number of pens reaching £3/15/- and over. All but lighter baconers showed the improvement, while porkers were very firm at late rates. Owing to the falling off in the milk supply, store pigs were cheaper. Baeoners, 53/- to 77/-; porkers, 33/- to 49/-; large stores, 20/- to 26/-. Prices per lb.: Baconers and porkers, 5Jd. to 5Jd. Masterton Sale Prices Dominion Special Service. Masterton, January 9. A good deal of interest centred ou the Musterton sale to-day, largely due to the fact that there appears to be a large number of store lambs which will be put up for auction within the next month. The New Zealand Farmers’ Co-operative Distributing Company's offering of 2136 sheep, comprised chiefly of store, b.f. and w.f. rape lambs. The sale for b.f. and w.f. rape lambs was particularly good in (he face of the weather conditions at present being experienced. Small and medium lambs also sold fairly well, while store wethers were easier iu price than at the sales just prior to Christinas. Fat sheep sold quite well. A dragging sale was encountered for the few cattle offered. Pigs were considerably cheaper. A total clearance was effected at the following prices:— Sheep.—Fats: Fat wethers, 24/-. to 25/5; fat ewes, 13/3 to 14/10; fat Sotfilidown owes. 15/-. Stores: B.f. lambs. 15/3 Io 16/9. Values at Johnsonville A full yarding of cattle and a smaller offering than usual of sheep were forward at the Johnsonville stock sale held yesterday by Wright, Stephenson and Co., Ltd., and Abraham and Williams Ltd. The cattle sale was a dragging one,
prices both for bullocks and cows showing a decline of from 7/6 to 10/- a head on last week's rates. Vealers were not in demand. The sheep yarding comprised average quality wethers, while the ewe yarding was mostly of good heavyweight prime quality. Prices for wethers, ewes and lambs showed no alteration on last week's rates.

Stortford Lodge Values

Au entry of 140 head of fat cattle came forward at to-day’s sale at Stortford Lodge, prices realised showing an advance o_f 5/- to 10/- a head as a result of tile short supply. There were few store cattle entered, the market being quiet. Fat sheep numbered 850, ewes selling well at improved rates, while wethers and lambs made parity values, export competition being particularly strong on suitable lines of freezing ewes. In the store sheep section rape lambs met keen competition at values which were firm on last week, while wethers and store ewes sold at slightly improved rates.
Bullocks, medium to prime, £8 to £9 15/-; others, from £5/12/-; cows, medius to prime. £4/6/- to £5; others, from £3/2/-; heifers, medium to prime, £5 5/- to £6/12/6; others, from £4. Wanganui Sale Dominion Special Service.

Prices at Freeman R. Jackson and Co.. Ltd.’s opening sale of the year were very much on a par with the closing rates of last year, except two-tooth wethers, which show a slight rise. Fat sheep and lambs were firm, and a good clearance made. Fat cattle sold well, most of the offering being very light with a good proportion of second quality cow beef, A heavy yarding of pigs sold well, but with a decided easing for porkers. All stores were, as expected, a shade easier. Sheep: Light fat wethers, 22/-; prime ewes, 16/- to 17/-; fat ewes. 12/- to 15/-; light fat lambs. 17/6 to 18/6; good, to 22/6; shorn b.f. lambs, 15/-; medium, 13/-: culls, 8/3 to 10/-; woolly b.f. lambs, 15/9; two-tooth wethers, 21/1; medium two-tooth ewes, 25/6; aged cull ewes, 4/- to 6/-. Cattle: Fat P.A. heifers, light, £5; light fat bullocks, £6/5/- to £6/10/-; prime ex dairy cows, £3/10/- to £4 15/-; fats, £2 to £3/5/-. Burnside Sale By Telegraph—Brens Association
Dunedin, January 9.
In the beef section at the Burnside sale to-day. 292 head were submitted to auction. The quality throughout did not compare favourably with recent markets, an<l there was a preponderance of cows and heifers. Prime heavy cattle sold firm at late rates, medium quality bullocks at 10/- per head dearer, while cows and heifers, on account of the large supply, barely maintained late values. Extra prime heavy bullocks sold to £ll/12/6; prime heavy, £9/2/6 to £lO/7/6; medium, £7/12/6 to £B/17/6; light, down to £5/17/6; prime heifers and cows to 15/17/6. The store cattle entry was the largest for some time, 186 head being yarded. A good line of two aud four-year-old steers from Central Otago met with keen competition and sold from £5 12/6 to £6/18/-. Vealers were in over supply, and lower prices ruled, while graziers’ and lower cows remained unchanged. Values for a medium entry of dairy cows showed a slight improvement, up to £5 being obtained for young cows close to profit. In the sheep section 1321 were offered, the yarding being comprised principally of ewes with only an odd consignment of wethers. The latter met with keen competition, prices appreciating 1/per head, while ewes sold firm at late rates. Extra prime heavy wethers sold to 27/9; prime heavy, 25/3 to 26/6; medium., 24/- to 25/-; light, down to 22/-; extra* prime heavy ewes, to 22/-; prime heavy, 19/- to 20/6; medium, 16/6 to 18/6; light, down to 13/-. There was a_ large entry of fat lambs numbering 952. Freezing buyers operated keenly, and all classes sold at full late rates. Extra prime heavy lambs realised up to 24/6; prime heavy. 21/- to 22/6; medium. 19/6 to 20/9; light, down to 17/9. A large entry of fat pigs numbering 238 were offered. Bacon Corel's operated throughout, and even values ruled, the prices being satisfactory to vendors. Heavy baconers sold to £3/16/-. and best quality porkers to £2/10/-. The store pig entry numbered 111, the yarding being readily disposed of. Large stores sold to 25/-, and best suckers to 16/-.
Fordell Sale There was a good attendance of buyers at the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co.'s Fordell sale, when a good yarding of sheep, including 800 lambs, came forward. There was a good demand for wethers and lambs, although on present fat prices there is still a better margin for fattening than has been in existence for several seasons past. One particularly good line of 300 Romney wether lambs from the Marlborough Sounds
