Inter-club Matches Resume CHALLENGE GAMES (By “Penultimate.”) Fixtures. North Island Championships, Wanganui (now in play). January 17: Gold mallets, Wellington. January 17: Gold Medals, Gore. Beautiful weather again favoured croquet players for the inter-club matches which were resumed on Tuesday after the holidays. The following are the results of this week’s matches: — Intermediate grade: Wellington v. Karori: Mesdames Billing and Thornton lost to Mesdames Steel and Mahoney, 24-26; Miss Clark and Miss Bates beat Mesdames Keenan and Bradnock, 26-12. Waimarie v. Hutt: Mesdames Extou and Campbell beat Mrs. Piper and Miss Maeaskill, 26-22; Mrs. Teagle and Miss Wilkin beat Mesdames McDonald and Nicholls, 26-21. Kelburn 1 v. Waimarie 1; Mesdames Waters and Wilson beat Mesdames Norris and Rage, 26-5; Mesdames Cooper and Lawrence beat Mesdames Howartson and Dwyer, 26-19. Ngaio v. Central; Ngaio got both games by default. B. Grade: Island Bay v. Victoria: Miss Jordon and Miss Pole beat Mesdames Key and Coe, 26-21; Mrs. Ornstien and Miss Jordon beat Mesdames Perry and Beveridge, 28-13. Khandallah v. Ngaio: Mrs. Sheargold and Miss Cowles beat Mesdames McArthur and Chatwin, 26-7; Mesdames Steptoe and Clark bent Mesdames Jeffreys and Williams. Woburn v. Seatoun: Mesdames McAnally and Robins beat Mesdames May and Suteliff, 26-13; Mesdames Peck and Jamieson beat Mesdames Bell and Davis, 26-17, Ngaroma v. Hataitai: Mesdames Kerr and Bell beat Mesdames Russell and Marsden, 26-23; Mesdames Millar and McKay -beat Mrs. Harlen ami Miss Wallace, 26-14. Kelburn v. Waimarie : Mesdames Long and Roberts bent Mesdames Wright and Vaughan, 26-12; Mesdames Hannah and Johnson beat Mesdames Stoupe and Flux. 26-11. A. Grade: Owing to the number of entries this grade was played in two sections, Kelburn has won the No. 1. section, Seatoun winning the No. 2 section. These dubs have to piny off for the shield on a neutral lawn. So far the game has not been arranged. Next Week’s Draw.

The following is the draw for next week:

Intermediate Grade: Waimarie 2 v Kelburn 1; Wellington v Wninutte 1; Central v Hutt; Lyall Bay v Karori: Woburn v. Ngnio; Ngaroma v. Eastbourne; Kelburn, a bye. B. Grade: Ngaio v Island Bay; Woburn v Mt. Victoria: Hataitai v Khandallah; Kelburn v Seatoun ; Karori v Ngaroma; Waimarie, a bye. Pollock Stars.

Ngaroma Club is tho next challenger for the Pollock Stars. This match has not yet been arranged, but will probably be played on the Kelburn lawns on Monday.

Association Ferns. The Welington Club, represented by Mesdames Billing and fi'liornton, will play the first match after the holiday season for the Association Ferns on Friday at 1.30. The challengers will be Mesdames Campbell and Cooper of Waimarie Club.

McKenzie Cups. Mesdames Harper * and Kearney of Karori Club will play the holders of the McKenzie Cups, Mesdames Millar and Sivyers, Ngaroma Club, during the week.

Champion of Champions. It has been decided by the association to hold the champion of chainpions event in conjunction with the Wellington’tournament to be held at the Hutt, commencing on Tuesday, February 5. Moist of the clubs have already found,their champions: others are in the final stages. All entries for the Wellington tournament must be sent to the manager of the tournament, Mrs. Boocock, .180 The Parade, Island Bay. not later than Tuesday, January 29. The draw will take place on Friday, February 1, at noon.

Club Champions. Quite a number of chibs have almost completed the championship matches. In the Wellington Club, A grade. Mrs. Henderson has played all her games with only one loss, Mrs. Manton has still two games to play, and so far has won them all. The intermediate grade was won by Miss Bates, runner-up Mrs. Billing. Mrs. Baker won the B grade, runner-up. Mrs. Baillie.

The championship games are well advanced at Karori Club. In tho intermediate section Mrs. Bradnock Junr., has had only one loss with one game still to play. The competition for the Andrew Hamilton Vase is complete. Mrs. Bradnock Junr. being the winner, with Mrs. Kearney runner-up. In the Hataitai Club. Mesdames Brice and Moeller have to play off for the final in the A grade, and Mesdames Russell and Jackson in the B grade.

N.Z. Team for Victoria. The New Zealand croquet team to compete in the International Croquet Tournament in Melbourne will leave to-day by the Monowai at 3 p.m. _ The members of the team with their friends will be entertained to luncheon at the D.I.C. prior to embarkation. Gold and Silver Mallets.

The competition tor Ihe Gold and Silver Mallets commences on Thursday next, January 17, at 9 a.m. At the present time there are more than 20 entries, so the competition will be played in two sections on tho Yankee principle, players playing every other person in their section. The winners of each section will nlay off on the Bagnall Wild system, each l>>iyer playing every other competitor in the'section. Th.e winner or winners and runners-up of each section will then play off by means of a Bagnall Wild draw.
