Haircutting in Wellington

Sir. —I should be interested to learn what brand of hairgrowing tonic “Strewelpeter” uses, since he seems to be almost frantic for a haircut at least once a week —and fails to find the barber who can keep him decently shorn. Most victims — or clients, as the case may be—find that there is something very soothing and mesmeric about the clip, clip in the chair, which makes me wonder if “Strewelpeter” is a clever wit or if he, perhaps, happened to have only about “two on ton.” If the latter—then all the fuss may have been caused by his being asked —“which one, sir?”

However, I should rather think of “Strewelpeter” as being a jolly good humorist, and that all the barbers should not have “got their hair off.” but should have roared laughing. Single-handed he seems to have the power to call up a storm of consternation from nearly all Wellington’s hairdressers. I have a strong suspicion that he may even be an understudy of our beloved G. B. Shaw. I’d shout him an ice cream if he were game to lecture in Wellington on haircutting and its effects upon humanity. I also feel sure our old friend A. S. Paterson could put the finishing touches to this very hairy controversial dialogue—without taking too much off the top. —I am, etc S. F. DARRAGH.
