GIFTS TO MAORI CHIEFS
Walking-sticks Presented

As an expression of his appreciation id’ the welcome accorded him at: Rotorua on December 22 and by the Native tribes of Rotorua and the Bay of .Plenty, the Duke of Gloucester entrusted Sir Apirana Ngata with the presentation of several walking sticks io the loaders of the tribes. The gifts have now been made on behalf of the .Duke by Sir Apirana, who has presented sticks to Hoani Te lieu Hen. chief of the Tuwharetoa tribe (Taupo), Ratu Kereru. chief of the T'lilioe tribe (I’rewera). To Ano Ano. chief of the Whakatohen tribe (Opofiki) and Running!. chief of the Waipahihi people. The Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, in the capacity of Native Minister, will ton,)’ Ihe district next week, when, in company with Sir Apirana Ngata. he will inspect land development schemes and discuss their problems with the Native people on I heir own ma rues.
Advice lias been received by the Mayor of Napier. Mr. C. 0. Morse, from Flying Olli.-er R. Whitehead ami Mr. R. A. Niclioll, tile two New Zealanders who a short time ago crossed the Tasman in tl"> “Faith in Now Zealand,” stating that they will arrive in Napier to-morrow. They nrc scheduled to arrive nt the aerodrome at 2 p.m.’. and Mr. Morse is making arrangements to give them an adequate welcome.
