A Minister of Hygiene
Sir, —There is no doubt that the public of New Zealand is indebted to its missionaries from abroad, and the name “Strewelpeter” as a minister of hygiene now adorns the list of those worthies. In some quarters he may be regarded as a nosey packer, or even a Soviet agen r , yet his powers of observation cannot be but admired by thinking people, who may in turn regard him as heaven-blessed and sent. In order to keep the home fires burning, some barbers call to their aid certain types of questionable “business,” and in such cases tonsorial artistry is relegated to the background to become a mern sideline. This state of affairs reveals at one and the same time the level of intelligence that courts such practice, and the tolerance by which it has been met. There is a crying need in New Zealand for more mental alertness, and in some quarters more mental hygiene.—l am. etc.. R.A. Wellington, January 8.
