Ministerial. The Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes, who spent the holidays at his home at Cheviot, North Canterbury, returned to Wellington yesterday morning. The Rt. Hon. J. G. Coates, Minister of Finance, is at Dargaville. The Hon. J. Bitehener, Minister of Public Works, will leave Wellington this evening by the inter-island steamer for Lyttelton, thence to Timaru, where he will attend the South Canterbury welcome to the Duke of Gloucester. Five Ministers returned to Wellington last evening—the Hon. R. Masters, Leader of the Legislative Council, and Minister of Industries and Commerce; the Hon. J. G. Cobbe, Minister of Justice and Defence; the Hon. E. A. Ransom, Minister of Lands; the Hon. 8. G. Smith, Minister of Education, and the Hon. C. E. Macmillan, Minister of Agriculture.
Lt.-Col. L. Worthington-Wilmer, private secretary -to the Governor of Tasmania, is a through passenger on the Maunganui. Mr. E. A. Sevier, New Zealand manager of the Vacuum Oil Company, who has been visiting Christchurch, returned to Wellington yesterday morning.
Dr. J. B. Condcliffe, of the League of Nations Economic Intelligence Service, is expected to arrive this morning from Christchurch.
Mr. A. MacDonald, of the Wellington Customs staff, returned by the Maunganui yesterday from a trip to Rarotonga.
The Rev. G. H. McNeur, veteran missionary pioneer of the Presbyterian Church in Canton, who is in New Zealand on leave, will return to China this month.
Dr. A. E. Coates, lecturer in anatomy, University of Melbourne, is a through passenger on the Maunganui, which arrived at Wellington yesterday en route from San Francisco to Sydney.
Mr. C. Melrose, radio expert to tlio firm of Butler’s (N.Z.) Ltd., of Christchurch, has joined Admiral Byrd’s ship, the Jacob Ruppert, at Port Chalmers. On his return Mr. Melrose will resume .his duties with the firm.
Mr. Peter Barr, of Dunedin, who arrived in Wellington last week, has left for the north and will sail from Auckland for Japan. After visiting that country he intends spending some time in England. Professor W. B. Benham, of Otago University, who has been staying in Auckland arrived by the Limited yesterday. Professor W. N. Benson, also of Otago University, is expected back by the Ormonde, due in Sydney on January 16. . Mr. Basil Sanderson, assistant general manager of the Shaw, Savill and Albion Company, Ltd., arrived by the Monowai yesterday from Australia, and will remain in the Dominion for about a month.
Father McGlone, Father Brennan, Father Murphy and Brother Treahey, arrived yesterday to attend the funeral of Archbishop Redwood. Bishop Brodie, the Very Rev. Dr. J. A. Kennedy, Father Price. Father McDonald, Father Cooney and Father Long are expected to arrive this morning.
Advice has been received that Mr. T. A. Blair, assistant general manager for Victoria ot the Vacuum Oil Company, Pty.. Ltd., has been promoted to the position of- general manager for that State. Mr. Blair was formerly Auckland manager of the Atlas Assurance Company. In 1926 lie resigned that position to accept the appointment of assistant genera] manager for New Zealand of the Vacuum Oil Company, and later was transferred to Melbourne in a similar capacity. Mr. J. C, Leitch, B. 8.E., who is a son of MY. Walter Leitch, mining engineei, of Christchurch, lias been appointed assistant general manager for Victoria of the Vacuum Oil Company. Mr. Arthur Wallis, of Dunedin, was in Wellington yesterday. Mr. T. C. Coull, of Dunedin, was a passenger from the south by the boat express yesterday morning. Mr. Denis Young, of Wellington, has returned from a visit co the South Island. Mr. R. E. Gillon returned to Wellington yesterday from Sydney by the Monowai. Mr. S. Bennett, manager for A. B. Donald Ltd.. Rarotonga, arrived at Wellington by the Maunganui yesterday.
