PLUNKET CARNIVAL

Pukerua Bay Branch A very successful carnival was held on Saturday by the Pukerua Bay branch of the Coastal Towns Blanket Society. In the afternoon a children’s fancy dress party was held in the hall, which had been gaily decorated, and at which many charming costumes were worn.

Mrs. C. Gray, president of the branch, welcomed the visitors, among whom were Miss Cameron and Mrs. Tythe Brown, president and vice-president of the Wellington centre, Mrs. W. Luke, Miss Hooper, charge nurse, and Miss Paynter. Visitors from the Porirua branch were the president, Mrs. Windley, Mesdames Hassall, Ryan and Benson. Mr. W. H. Field, M.P., was also present.

The costumes were judged by Misses E. Wallach and A. Hilliard, and Miss Cameron presented the prizes. After tea Mr. Field expressed his pleasure at being present, and apologised for the unavoidable absence of Mrs. Field. He also welcomed Mrs. Gray back from her holiday abroad. In the evening the carnival was continued with a fancy dress dance, when prizes for cpstumes were won by Mr. Scrimgeour and Miss Cimino. Several amusing competitions were successfully carried out. Great credit is due to the committee for the splendid team work which resulted in a handsome addition to the funds,
