The Department of Agriculture has received the following cablegram, _ dated January 5, from the High Commissioner for New Zealand, London:— Tallow: Good demand at auction ; 484 casks offered, of which 367 sold at better prices. Present spot quotations are: — Mutton: Fine, 22/6; fair to good, 21/to 22/-; dark to dull, IS/6 to 19/6. Beef: .Sweet' and/or mixed, 22/6 to 23/6; fair to good, 20/- to 22/-; dark to dull. 18/to 19/-. Mixed : Fair to good. 20/- to 22/-: dark to dull. 18/- to 19/-. Gut. etc.. 18/- to 19/6. Hemp: Manila—Market firmer and sellers reserved. “K” grade for Janu-ary-March shipment sold at £l4. Sisal : Market firm and active. Closing values for No. 1 grade for January-March shipment, £l5, while March-May shipment sold up to £l5/7/6. New Zealand : Nothing to report. Nominal value on the basis of fair grade, £l4/10/- for JanuaryFebruary shipment. Eggs: Market weak and irregular., and tendency downward. English, national pack. 11/6 to 16/-; Danish. 9/6 to 13/6; Australian. 9/- to 11/-. New Zealand: Consignment ex Waiwera landed but still unsold. Nominal value, 8/- to 10/3. Apples: Demand well maintained for Homo and imported and prices firm. English Cox’s Orange, 9/- to 14/-; British Columbian Jonathans, 9/6 to 12/-; Newtowns, 10/6 to 13/-; Delicious, 9/6 to 14/-; Oregon Newtowns. 11/6 to 13/3; Californian Newtowns, 10/6 to 11/-.

Peas: Maples—Market continues quiet. New crop Tasmanian, February-March shipment, sold at 42/6 to 43/-. New crop New Zealand offered at same prices for March-April shipment, but no business reported. Blues: Little more demand during the month, and “A” grade Tasmanian afloat sold at £lO.

The Bank of New South Wales has received the following cabled advice from its London office, dated January 4:— Wool: Market remains unchanged with a steady inquiry. Mutton : Wethers, 4d. to s|d.; ewes. 31d. to 44d.; lamb, 7d. to Bd. Beef, 2}d. to 3 3-Bd.; pork, sid. to 61<1.; butter. 77/-; cheese, white and coloured, 47/-.
