The Tonsorial Art

Sir, —Criticism is one of man’s greatest friends, little known, often mistaken, seldom heard to advantage, and always a doer of good. “Strewelpeter” criticises that which perhaps has never before mer sueh open and frank criticism, and as a reward catches the fish, hook, line and sinker. Did the hairdressers bite? Perhaps we need not ask. I can picture them on that fateful morning after reading the letter, looking around their shops, then dashing to the nearest pen to write and tell him and the rest of us all about their nice little shop, and in the best of sarcastic manners proceed to tell him what to do with his head. "Strewelpeter” has his hair cut every ten days and if he were to try every barber in Wellington at this rate it would take him somewhere in the vicinity of five or six months. He, as a traveller, might have been unfortunate in his choosing and therefore is only criticising those whom he has tried. Although he does not state this, we may assume that such is the case. Owing to the wide circulation of “The Dominion,” thousands of people throughout New Zealand will have read the letters addressed to you and the hairdressers. From now on you- may he sure that 90 per cent, of the people receiving 1 aircuts will be on the lookout for those things which are supposed to be and are most likely in some cases lacking. Hairdresses, uphold “Strewelpeter” as a man who has given yonr trade a colossal advertisement for the new year. The public will come looking for service ; give it. and may your business' prosper.—l am, etc. EIGHTEEN-YEAR-OLD. Upper Hutt, January 5.
