HOTTEST DAY FOR 14 YEARS
Over 93deg. at Christchurch By Telegraph.—Press Association. Christchurch, January 7. Not for 14 years has Christchurch had a hotter day than it had to-day, when the maximum temperature in the shade was 93.1 degrees, reached at 2.5 p.m. On January 3, .1921, the temperature was 94.3 degrees, and there has been only one day hotter than that since temperatures have been officially recorded. That day was January 30, 1908, and the temperature was 95.3 degrees.
In exposed places the temperature today was considerably higher than it was at Christchurch, a reading taken at Avoca showing 96 degrees. To-day was the seventh day this summer and the second this month that the temperature has been higher than 80 degrees. The previous highest for the summer was 86.9 degrees on December 20.
