Calcutta, January 1,
A severe earthquake shock, with its epicentral region probably in south Tibet, about 200 miles north of Mount Everest, was recorded on Indian and Burmese seismographs at 7.2.2 yesterday morning. Scientists are o£ opinion that the barren country of the central Tibetan plateau, beyond the Himalayan ranges, is rapidly becoming an area of seismic activity. Owing to recent heavy snowstorms communication between India and remote parts of Tibet is impossible, and it will probably be weeks -before authentic information is obtainable regarding the recent shocks, which are the severest recorded in India since tlie great Bihar earthquake a. year ago.
