Christmas : Party. The inmates of the Children’s Home at Miramar had a most enjoyable Christmas party given them by the social club of the Victoria University, who for some years have made this an annual affair. J

Miss Dunn, assisted by Misses Henderson and Davidson and Mr. Blateiu ford, were untiring in their efforts to amuse the children. A most delectable meal was brought, including strawberries and cream, and to this the young people did full justice. When the hour for breaking up the party came, three hearty cheers were given for those who had so kindly assisted.

Lure of Pretty Things. J Never was the lure of pretty things more potent than to-day, when designers and manufacturers combine to tempt the coin out of the pay envelope, and though the older generation shakes

its head at the extravagance of the modern lass it must be remembered that half a century ago there was little of this temptation to be resisted. So when great-grandmother had an attack of “the vapours” or some such mysterious ailment, she pined at home and became as unhappy in mind as she was in body, whereas the modern girl goes out and buys herself a new lipstick or a colourful scarf, bedecks, herself with extra care, and snaps her fingers at bad luck or a grey day.— “Brisbane Courier.”
