SLIGHT DECREASE

Holiday Totalisator Figures x BIG, SUM INVESTED Over Half Million at 21 Meetings , t Over halt a million pounds was invested on the totalisator during the Christinas and New Year racing sea- * son just concluded in New Zealand. Fifteen race meetings and six trotting meetings were held, and the total invested was £582,770, a decrease of £19,002 on the figures for the _ corresponding period last year. £602,3*8. The largest meeting from an investment point of view was that of the Auckland Racing Club. On its four days a total of £186,893 was invested on the totalisator, compared with £198,504 last year. Decreases were also registered at the following meetings: Manawatu Racing Club, from £52,090 to £49,510; Canterbury Trotting Club, £40,683 to £36,326; Greymouth Jockey Club. £11,750 to £8612; Hawke’s Bay Jockey Club, £17,123 to £13,979; Wairarapa Racing Club, £26,991 to £18,912. Auckland Trotting Club investments showed’a small increase from £75,548 to £75,563, and other increases included : Taranaki Jockey Club, £18,194 last year to £22,092 this year; Westland Racing Club, £7328 to £8539; Dunedin Jockey Club, £24,420 to £25,237; Southland Racing Club. £21,040 to £26,082. In a number of instances investments at the opening of meetings were indicative of increases for the whole period, but rain on New Year’s Day, in particular, caused decreases.
