Rex Beach, the well-known novelist, has written a film story, tentatively called “Healer of Men,” based on the life of Dr. Locke, the famous “healer" of Williamsburg, Ontario. Dr. Locke, a graduate of Edinburgh University, will appear as himself in the picture, which will bp produced in Canada.
“Anna Karenina” is being rumoured as the material for Garbo’s next picture, if and when she renews ber M.G.M. contract. Gaumont - Brit i s li announced some time ago that they planned filming this famous Tolstoy novel witli Madeline Carroll and Conrad Veidt.
“East End, West End,” an original roma n t i c mystery story by .Llewellyn ft uglies, noted short story writer, was purchased recently by. Fox for production by Al Rockett. No cast has yet been selected.
The story by Arthur Somers Roche, “Star at Midnight” now appearing serially in The Red Book magazine has been purchased by RKO-Radio as a screen vehicle for William Powell. The story deals with the adventures of a clever man-about-town who falls in love with a most mysterious actress whose disappearance later 'becomes associated with two thrilling murders.
Every week adds a new development to "Tlie Great Ziegfield.” The latest is a song entitled “The Zie gfte 1 d Walk” written by Con Conrad and Jack Scholl. William Anthony McGuire, who is to produce this super for Univer s a 1, bought it to go with “A Pretty Girl is Like a Melody” and “Blue White Moonlight.” Tlie cast so far includes only William Powell as Ziegfield and Fannie Brice and Harriet Hoctor as themselves.
