WEDDINGS

Mann—Oates The wedding was solemnised at St. Mark’s Church, Carterton on Saturday, of Mavis Jane, youngest daughter of Mr. H. Oates, Carterton, and Alexander George, son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Mann, “Rathkeale,” Masterton, and late of Fifeshire, Scotland. The Rev. W. F. Stent performed the ceremony. The church had been decorated by friends'of the bride, and Mr. A. Millar Hope presided at .the organ. Thg bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of ivory silk lace over taffeta, the skirt and small cape being edged with frills of net. The beautiful tulle veil, lent by her cousin, Mrs. E. R. Tew, Foxton, was arranged with a circlet of orange blossom and pearls. She carried a sheaf of regal lilliums and asparagus fern. She was attended by her sister, Miss Irene Oates, with Miss Esther Mann, sister of the bridegroom, as flower girl. The former wore a pink and blue floral frock trimmed with waterfall frills, and her hat, sash and shoes were ot turquoise’blue. She carried a sheaf of blue delphiniums and asparagus fern. The latter wore a pink and blue floral frock, with pink hat, sash and shoes, and carried a posy of pink carnations, delphiniums and gypsophila. The bridegroom was attended by Mr. S. Oates, Pirinoa. After the ceremony the guests were entertained at the home of the bride's father. Mr. and Mrs. A. G. Mann left for the south, the bride wearing a pink patterned silk frock trimmed with kilting, pink straw hat and white shoes, handbag and gloves. Their future home •will be at Masterton. Gilkison—Cuff The marriage of Edith Isobellc, fifth daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. H. Cuff, Dannevirke, to William Donald, only son of Mrs. and the late Mr. Gilkison, Sydney, was solemnised at St. John’s Church, Dannevirke, by the Rev. C, B. Stephenson, recently. The bride, who was given away by her father, wore a gown of -white georgette and lace, her veil being o? embroidered.net. She carried a sheaf of red geraniums, and was attended by Miss Molly Cuff, who wore a dress of pale green crinkle organdie, with hat to match. Her bouquet was of geraniums and elarkia. Mr. Russell Bassett, Masterton, carried out the duties of best man.

After the ceremony a reception was held at the residence of the bride’s sister, Mrs. E. Brown, who wore navy check taffeta and a beige hat. Mrs. Cuff, mother of the bride, was wearing an ensemble of black floral marocain, and a black hat. She carried a bouquet of red roses. Mr. and Mrs. W. D. Gilkison left for a motor tour of the north, the bride wearing a dusty pink ensemble and a picture hat. Their future home will be at Wairoa. « » s Cormack—Edwards A quiet wedding was celebrated in St. Matthew’s Church, Mastertoil, ou Wednesday, when Alice Jean, elder daughter of Mrs. and the late Mr. D. N. Edwards, was married to Frederick, younger son of the late Mr. and Mrs. D. A. Cormack, Pahiatua. The Rev. E. J. Rich was the officiating minister, and he was assisted by the Rev. Mr. Jones. The bride, who was given away by her brother, Mr. Jack Edwards, wore a gown of coral crepe moleste cut on graceful lines, with'a sisal hat to match. Her bouquet was of pi> ’• carnations and maidenhair fern. Miss Sally Drummond, who attended her, wore a frock of ice blue crepe felece, with a large picture hat to match. She carried a bouquet of hydrangeas and carnations. Mr. Gorden Brash, Featherston, was the best man, and Mr. Douglas Edwards, the bride’s brother, acted as usher. After the ceremony a reception was held at the Empire Hotel, where Mrs. Edwards, wearing a dress of navy shadow lucretia with hat to match, and carrying red carnations, received the guests. Mr. and Mrs. F. Cormack left for the south, the bride travelling la a brown and white ensemble with matching hat and shoes. Their future home will be at Wellington. » » <■ Evans—Friend St. Matthew’s Church, Mastertou, was prettily decorated on Boxing Day, on the occasion of the marriage of Marjorie Ellen, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. E. Friend, Masterton, to Edward Argoyd, fourth son of Mr. and Mrs. D. P. Evans, New Plymouth. The ceremony, which was fully choral, was solemnised 'by the Rev. E. J. Rich, while Mrs. E. J. Coleman presided at the organ.

The bride, who was escorted by her father, wore a gown of parchment Ince over ivory satin, the long skirt forming a train. Her bouquet was of Christmas lilies. The Misses Valerie Whiteman and Jessie Aitken, attended her, dressed alike in parchment net frocks over pale green, the skirts falling in full flares, trimmed with net flowers.

They wore hats and shoes to tone, and carried sheafs of yellow arum lilies. Mr. D. S. Evans, brother of the bridegroom, was best man, and Mr. S. Friend, brother of the bride, acted as groomsman.

Later a reception was held at the Empire Hotel, where Mrs. Friend, wearing a black lace and georgette dress and black picture hat, received the guests. She also carried a posy of red carnations, while Mrs. Evans, the bridegroom’s mother, who was dressed in navy blue, carried a posy of pink carnations. Mr. and Mrs. E. A. Evans left by car for the north, the bride travelling in a lido blue and white ensemble, with hat and shoes to match. BARGAINS!
