Mrs. W. J. Melody, Northland, is visiting Auckland. Miss R. McAlister is an Auckland visitor to Wellington.

Captain and Mrs. Williams, Wanganui, are visiting Tauranga. Miss Agnes Marshall, Palmerston North, is spending three weeks at Taupo.

Mrs. Howard James and Miss Barbara James, Owen Street, are at present at Auckland.

Miss Ruth Putnam, Northland, left by car yesterday for the Chateau, where she will spend the week-end. Missi Betty McFarland, Park Street, Is the guest of Mrs. Dudley Newbigiu, Hastings.

Mr. and Mrs. Eric Rididford, Orongorongo, have returned from a visit to Auckland.

Mrs. and Miss Pitkowski intend leaving Wellington shortly to visit Palestine, via Australia.

Mr. and Mrs. Morgan Duncan, Wanganui, returned by the Akaroa from a trip to England. Misses Bell and Drummond are Wellington visitors to Wanganui, the guests of Mrs. Don. Murchie.

Mrs. J. R. Stewart, Wanganui, is visiting her son, Mr. James Stewart, Masterton.

Mr. and Mrs. Claude Arthur, Kilbirnie, are staying with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Symonds, Napier. Colonel and Mrs. J. Pow, and Mr. and Mrs. Macintosh, who have been motoring in the Te Anau district, have returned to Wellington. Miss Madeliene E. Cooper, who arrived from Sydney by the Marama, is staying with Mr. and Mrs. Mark Toomey, Wadestown. Miss Eileen Jollands and Miss Frances Stevens, Lower Hutt, have returned from a visit to Napier and Hastings. Mrs. Owen Sole, who has been visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Henry Rogers, Ohatu, Taihape, has returned to Wellington. Miss K. M. O’Gorman, who has berm spending a short holiday at Wellington, will return to Christchurch at the end of the week.

Miss Amy Kane, Halswell Street, who has been visiting Auckland, will return to Wellington at the end of the week. Lady Buckleton and Miss Jean Buckleton, who have been in the north, motored through to Wellington from Hamilton on Wednesday.

The Rev. Archibald and Mrs. Hunt have left for Auckland, where Mr. Hunt is supplying the pulpit of Mt. Eden Presbyterian Church for the month of January. Dr. and Mrs. P. MoEvedy and the Misses Mary and Patricia McEvedy, who returned from a visit to England by the Akaroa, which arrived at Auckland last week, are expected at Wellington to-morrow morning. The Misses Allan, Karori, who have been staying with Mrs. John Ince, Broadway, Mangaweka, have returned to Wellington, accompanied by Mrs. Ince and her small son and daughter, who will spend a few weeks at Muritai. Lady Louis Mountbatten, one of the wealthiest women in England, whose husband visited New Zealand in 1920 in the suite of his cousin, the Prince of Wales, is now staying in Tahiti. Some years ago her sister, the Hon. Mrs. Cunningham Reid, and her young husband paid New Zealand a visit. It is possible that Lady Louis may now follow her example and come on to the Dominion on her way back to England. Lord Louis, who is in the Royal Navy, is now on the China Station, and his millionairess wife has been visiting him. Lady Louis and her sister inherited the bulk of the vast wealth of the Jewish financier, Sir Ernest Cassel, a friend of King Edward VII. Miss Edwina Ashley, as she then was, met Lord Louis when she was the guest of the Viceroy of India. Lord Louis is a cousin of his Majesty the King. ENGAGEMENTS NOCK—WILLETTS. The engagement is announced of Quendlione, youngest daughter of Mr. and Mrs. P. Knott, of Masterton, to Loyd, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. McKenzie, of Masterton. DIAMOND WEDDING Mr. and Mrs. S. Hirst On New Year’s Day, at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. Frew, Ohau, a pleasant function took place, this being the 60th anniversary of the wedding of Mr. and Mrs. S. Hirst. Guests were present from Auckland, Wellington, New Plymouth, Wanganui and Woodville. One feature of the Hirst’s party was the presence of Mrs. Hirst’s only sister, Mrs. Peck, and her brother, Mr. James Stint, the ages of the three totalling 241 years. Over 70 guests were present at the wedding breakfast. The three-tiered cake was made by Mrs. G. H. Blanshard, Wellington. The health of Mr. and Mrs. Hirst was proposed by Mr. D. Stent and suitably replied to by Mr. S. Peck.

Telegrams of congratulations were received from many relatives and old friends.
