Won by Tauranga Crew

Tauranga, January 2. The fourth race for the Cornwell Cup over a triangular course this afternoon was won by Tauranga, giving them three wins mid the cup. There was a fresh northerly breeze. Manukau got away the best from a good start at 4.24. Auckland, Hamilton, and Tauranga following. Half-way to the first mark Tauranga passed Hamilton, which were closing up on Auckland. Manukau was the first round the first mark. Tauranga came five seconds later, and Auckland ten, with Hamilton 30 seconds back. On the run to the second mark the spinnakers were out, the Tauranga crew handling their boat to great advantage to round first. From then on they increased their lead. The finishing times were: —Tauranga, 5.20.0; Manukau, 5.21.15; Auckland, 5.22.5; Hamilton, 5.25.50.
