ALPINE HUT
Opened at Godley Glacier

Timaru, January 2. Thirty members of the New Zealand Alpine Club from all parts of the Dominion assembled in the Godley Glacier district over Christmas and New Year. The new hut erected by the club was officially opened on Christmas Eve, and used as a base for climbing. Several trips were made, including first ascents of Mt. Loughuan and Mt. Darchiac from the Godley side, as well as a first traverse of the Grey Glacier. It was of interest to members of flic party to have with them Mr. G. E. Manning, who was one of tho pioneer explorers of the Godley Valley 42 years ago, and Mr. A. <P. Harper, one of the founders of the club.
