WATERFRONT BUSY
Many Big Vessels in Port
To-day should be one of the busiest days the Wellington waterfront has seen for many months past. The arrival of the Union Company’s Marama from Sydney yesterday morning, and the American, steamer Golden State from Los Angeles, via Auckland, last night, brought the number of overseas and intercolonial vessels in port up to nine, while early this morning the Japanese motor-ship Sydney Marti is due from Japan, via Australia, and will swell the total to ten. Practically every wharf this morn-* ing will have its full complement of big vessels, though the port is fairly bare of coastal ships. At the Pipitea Wharf are the motor-liner Rangitata and H.M.A.S. Australia, and at the King’s Wharf the Kent, Port Fairy and Gabriella. The Karamea and City of Glasgow are berthed a_t the Glasgow Wharf, while at the Queen’s are the Maheno, Marama and Golden State. The Sydney Maru will berth at the Taranaki Street Wharf.
The wharves should be fairly empty on Saturday, but ou Sunday and Monday a further four big ships are due in port.
