MARTON RESULTS

Duke’s Mount Runs Fourth CUDDLE TAKES CUP Attendance a Record Dominion Special Service. Marton, January 1. - The Marton Jockey Club’s meeting opened in fine weather. There was a record attendance, and the totalisator investments were £15,783/10/-, compared with £12,407 on the first day last year. After the fourth race rain fell intermittently. The Duke of Gloucester, who was accorded a great reception, left at 4.55, driving his own car. AH-the-way Effort Fails. Diamond attempted to win all the way in the Kata Hurdles, but Sir Spear was too seasoned and finished well, winning nicely by a length. Blacksmith, though tender in front, finished strongly. Trial Plate. King’s Lancer waited on the leader, Dawn Princess, in the Trial Plate, until the turn for home, and then ran past to win with ease by a good margin. The winner will do well in better company. Dawn Princess failed over the final furlong, but Evasion was going better than any other contestant wjtli the exception of the winner. Hard Times drifted early. Amateur Riders’ Event.

Backed down to little better than even money, The Ark won the Ladies’ Bracelet more comfortably than the margin of a length would appear to indicate. Conference was always handy, and ran up to the leaders at the distance, while Royal Papa, carrying 36 tickets more than Tl>e Ark, finished on well to cut Black Man out of third money. Black ridden in the orthodox English style of long rein and long leather, led to the distance,, but. it appeared as if the winner couhT have gone to the front at any stage, The rest did not impress. Third Greyspear to Win. Poniard won the New Year Hack Handicap decisively and returned a really good price. He made the third Greyspear to win in four races. Round Score was handy throughout, and finished strongly to cut King Thomond out of second dividend. After the race, King Thomond, who was .a string favourite, bled profusely from a cut in a leg. Runaway Cup Victory. Cuddle scored a runaway victory in the Marton Cup, making all the pace and then coming away when challenged in the straight. She pulled up well, and it would not surprise if she were to score again in better company. Plateau had every chance, being in a handy postion throughout, but be managed to hold off the rest, of which Tout le Monde gave the best of whom Tout 1c Monde gave the best display. Catalogue was following the leader early, but could not go the pace in the final stages. Pango ran a good race, but Rust, after flattering in the middle stages, died away again. Juvenile Handicap, Invoice waited oh the pacemaker, Palm, in the Juvenile Handicap and then ran past her to win with ease. Palm turned it in when tackled,_ while Matrimony ran promisingly. Chief Lady shaped like one to keep in mind. Wheriko’s Sprint. Wheriko trailed the field in the early stages 6f the Railway Handicap, but was vigorously ridden over the final furlong to win nicely. He is in good form, but his apprentice rider did not give him much assistance. Bodyline threatened to win at the distance, but was not quite good enough, while Cadland was done with at the home turn, where he could have come through to win had he been able. Won All the Way, Abbey Feale jumped into the lead when the tapes went up for the concluding race and won ail (he way, though Dialogist ran her to a narrow margin. Raparahara should be improved, while Midian may do better as a result of the race. Results in Detail By Telegraph.—Press Association. RATA HACK HURDLES, of £lOO.
