Referring to the economic revival, he said the whole nation was ringing with Labour’s ecstatic song, but admitted raw material and currency shortages and low wages. He added that Germany was more respected throughout the world than at any time since the War.
Finally, ho eulogised Herr Hitler, ‘‘whose name is pronounced gratefully by millions of lips. He is the fnith with which we confront trustfully life's asperities.”

Cardinal Attacks Reich

At Munich, Cardinal Faulhaber, delivering a New Year sermon to 8000 Catholics, denounced the profanation Of God and Christianity by the third Reich and added, referring to Herr Hitler's glorification by enthusiastic Nazis: The greatest profanation . has been the likening of Christ to mere man. Do not accept this. Oppose it as true followers of the Church. It is profanation when the Lord’s Prayer is paraphrased for political purposes. This referred to the Propaganda Ministry’s publication of the Lord's Prayer. Cardinal Faulhaber declared that the strength of the Catholic Church and the number of churchgoers had strikingly increased in 1934.
