YOUTH DROWNED
Blockhouse Bay Accident By Telegraph—Press Association. Auckland, January 1. A drowning accident occurred to-day nt Blockhouse Bay on the Manukau Harbour, the victim being Joseph Alexander Taylor, aged 18, of Blockhouse Bay Road. Deceased was attempting to learn to swim when lie got out of his depth and disappeared. Deceased was some five yards from the shore when he was seen to fall over in the water, the assumption being that be slipped off an underwater rock ledge. James Taylor went to his brother's assistance, but Joseph Taylor had by this time been carried into the deep channel. The boy reached bis brother, but. he was being pulled under the surface, and finding that he alone could not effect a rescue lie returned to the shore to secure assistance. This was obtained, but deceased disappeared. The body has not been recovered.
