D. Collinson Wins N.Z. Championship MANAWATU CLUB EVENTS Dominion Special Service. Palmerston North, January 1. The Manawatu Motor Club’s annual motor-cycle races, held on Awapuni racecourse to-day, attracted a large attendance. Fine weather prevailed until the conclusion of the events. The New Zealand lightweight championship, over eight miles, was won by D. Collison, of Palmerston North, and the six-mile Manawatu middleweight championship was won by H. Mangham, of Masterton. There was only one spill during the afternoon, L. Perry crashing into the inside fence on the corner leading into the bac’k straight when leading the field in the lightweight championship. Results were as follow:—

Five-mile Novice Handicap.—Hicks (15 sec.), 1; IL McDonald (scr.), 2; E, Faulkner (15sec.), 3; P. Sutton (ssec.), 4. Time. 5.10 3-5.

Seven Miles Handicap.—H. Tolley (20 sec.), 1; J. Fenton (25sec.), 2; H. Mangham (scr.), 3; H. Davis (20sec.), 4. Time, 0.30.

N.Z. Lightweight Championship, Eight Miles, Rolling Start.—D. Collison (Harley Davidson), 1 and Edmunds Cup; C. Goldberg (Velocette), 2; P. Phillips (HarleyDavidson), 3; J, Fenton (Velocette), 4. Time, 7.11 4-5.

Goldberg led for the first two laps with Perry close behind. Perry took the lead in the third lap, but crashed into the rails in the fourth. Phillips took the lead with Goldberg and Collison second and third. Collison went out in front in the fifth lap and gradually increased bis lead to win by 150 yards. Six Miles Manawatu Championship.—H. Mangham (Rudge), 1; H. Tolley (Zenith), 2; D. Collison (Harley Davidson), 3. Time, 5.12 1-5.

Flve-mile Handicap.—J. Fenton (25see.), 1; C. Goldberg (lOsec.), 2; J. McLeod (35 sec.), 3. Time, 4.54 T-5.

Seven-mile Handicap, for machines over 350 c.c.—H. Mangham (ser.), 1; D. Collison (lOsec.), 2; H. Tolley (lOsec.), 8; S. Gaisford (35see.). 4. Time, 6.46 1-5. Gaisford, a well-known track rider some years ago. had his first ride this afternoon for 12 years. Unfortunately his machine did not behave well. Seven Miles Open Handicap, Wakefield Cup and Gold Medal.—H. Mangham (scr.), 1; H. Davis (25sec.), 2; J. McLeod (35sec.), 3; H. Tolley (15sec.), 4. Mangham’s time for the race was 5.50, an average of 72 miles an hour a lap. Five-mlle Consolation Handicap.—D. Paton (25sqc.), 1; A. Kimber (lOsec.), 2; P. Phillips (lOsec.), 3. Time, 4.4 1-5.
