“ON HER FEET AGAIN”
Lord Rothermere Writes on Germany SPARTA LED BY SPARTAN By Telegraph.—Press Assn. —Copyright. (Received December 30, 6.30 p.m.) London, December 30. “Germany is on her feet again,” writes Lord Rothermere, in the “Daily Mail,” after a week’s visit to Munich. “Germans, through Herr Hitler, have found a new and potent faith, which has wrought the miracle of removing the mountains of difficulty barring her way to recovery. “Germany has set a new pace to human endeavour. She is a new Sparta, led by a Spartan whose daily fare is as simple as the'humblest worker’s. His example has encouraged young Germans to improve themselves 30 per cent, in physique, and their zest for work is already high above the standard. When a whole generation has grown up under the Nazis, Germans will be almost supermen. “Moreover, under Herr Hitler’s magnetism, the nation lias reached a selfconfidence and progress suggesting a gigantic powerhouse. "No limits may be set to developments with which she may surprise the world. Germany to-day is the strongest power in Europe.” The “Manchester Guardian” prints a letter from a workman employed on motor roads, who says that the workers receive scanty rations and small wages. He adds that there is a lot of “niggerdriving,” that there are many serious and even fatal accidents, and frequent open mutiny in the camps, owing to the scarcity of food. “This shows up the glorious times to which Herr Hitler has led us.” must" have wool English Professor’s View SUBSTITUTES ANALYSED (Received December 30. 6.30 p.m.) London, December 29. "Germany cannot do without wool despite Herr Hitler’s assertion. The world may laugh when they say Germans can make themselves independent of it and other fundamental raw materials within two years,” writes Professor Eber Midgley, of the Bradford Technical College, after a first analysis of German synthetic fibres. He says that the principal fibre ‘ Vistra” contains rayon mixed with pure wool. “Wollstra” consists of 50 per cent, of virgin wool and 50 per cent, of Vistra.” He adds that clothes produced from them are very deficient compared with’ wool fabrics. GERMANY BUYS FREELY Value to Bradford Market London, December 28. Yorkshire newspapers report that Germany is buying considerable quantities of wool. The “Yorkshire Post” says that there is little doubt that the German demand for scoured merino wool and merino tops is the mainstay of the Bradford market.
