SAFE AT MELBOURNE
Yacht. Ngataki Arrives (Received December 30, 6.30 p.m.) Melbourne, December 30. * The crew of tlie New Zealand yacht Ngataki. which was beaten by Te Rapunga in the race from Auckland to Melbourne were all well on arrival and proud of the performance of the yacht on making the crossing successfully. They struck three gales and two calms. They had a daily swim over lhe side until near Australia, when on the fourteenth day’out, they were about to /live in and a huge shark appeared alongside. There were no more swims. On Boxing Night they had a narrow escape from being run down by a steamer in Bass Strait. On Saturday morning tlie yacht was safely berthed and the crew dashed to the nearest cafe and disposed of six pounds of steak, 18 eggs and a loaf of toasted bread.
