NO CALL AT MILFORD
Maheno’s Passengers Disappointed WEATHER UNFAVOURABLE / By Telegraph.—Press Association. Dunedin, December 28. Commenting 1 on the fact that the intercolonial steamer Maheno was unable to enter Milford Sound this week on her trip from Melbourne, Captain Morgan stated to-day that it was veiy disappointing to him as well as to the passengers that an opportunity to see the wonders of the sound was missed solely on account of the weather. The Maheno arrived off Milford Sound at 7 o’clock on Tuesday evening. The weather was thick with heavy rain and very low visibility. Land was sighted between one and two miles off, but the weather became thicker and all landmarks were obliterated. The rain was so thick that the ship’s officers could not see farther than half a mile. The Maheno steamed in circles until 8.15 p.m., Captain Morgan, .waiting for the weather to clear sufficiently to take his ship into the sound, but the visibility was not sufficient to take the Maheno in that night. At dawn on Wednesday the Maheno was still north of Doubtful Sound in thick fog, and, knowing that there was no possible chance of the passengers seeing Milford Sound, Captain Morgan continued on to Bluff.
