MANDENO—PORTEOUS. The engagement is announced of ’Muriel Marian, eldest daughter of Dr. and Mrs. W. J. Porteous, of Dunedin, to John Leighton, eldest son of Mr. and Mrs. H. Mandeno, of Te Awamutu. THE SOCIAL ROUND Afternoon Party A pleasant afternoon was spent recently, when Mrs. L. O. H. Tripp entertained the members of the Women’s National Reserve Headquarters Executive to afternoon tea at the Pioneer Club, Mrs. Hargreaves, who is leaving the Dominion for a time, was tlie guest of honour, and received many tributes to her work as president of the Kelburn-Northland branch of the W.N.R., which post she has fllled most ably and successfully for a number of years. On behalf of the executive, Mrs. Tripp presented her with a travelling rug, and expressed their good wishes for an enjoyable holiday. Mrs. Hargreaves, in her reply, spoke of the pleasure it gave her to know that Mrs. Waugh was taking over her work, and that Mrs. Parkinson, who had been secretary-treasurer of the branch for a number of years, was continuing in office.
