The new University Library of Cambridge has 40 miles of books, ranging from stories for schoolgirls, old Bradshaw’s Guides to the only perfect copy of Claxton’s “Golden Legend,” and the famous 42-line Bible printed at Mainz In 1456. This Bible, the greatest among a vast collection of treasures, is insured for £50,000; but even this amount Is regarded merely as nominal. The value of the book Is beyond the usual standards of computation
In to-day’s advertising columns the Railway Department announces train arrangements and fares to the forthcoming Taipherenikau ana Marton races. Booklets and handbills giving full particulars of the train arrangements and reduced fares for the New Year holiday period, including the various sporting fixtures, are obtainable free at all stations and city booking offices.
Princess Jacqueline, America’s famous talking bulldog, is dead. It was said that she had a vocabulary of over 20 words. Dr. Knight Dunlap, of Johns Hopkins University, stated that she possessed vocal cords similar to those of human beings, in addition to the normal canine equipment. Jacqueline would welcome visitors with a cheery “Hello.” and would speed the parting guests with a polite “Call again.” The most ambitious word in its vocabulary was “elevator.
