The Old Year
The Old Year is a diary where is set Down, page by dog-eared page, all that I kneiv Of Twelve months’ joy, of sorrow, of regret, A memo oft-the times when I was true To trusts, to friends; what I have made of self. Here violets are pressed . . . here is a blend Of tears and ink . . . I’ll place it on the shelf When I have added these last words —“The , End.” And now I have my .New Year book to fill, No word yet penned in it, nor any blot Upon the clean white sheets, the pages still Uncut, though dated day by day.* Just what They will record, God only can foretell — And, after all, perhaps if is as zvcll. > —Ethel Romig Fuller, .in the Christian Century.
